The podcast for designers, developers, product owners and others that live to make digital products.
HOSTS
Jared Stephens
Proven design leader, international keynote speaker, and human-centered design enthusiast.
I lead teams that deliver real value to customers.
I have been a part of incredibly talented teams that could not seem to get ideas to market, and I have been a part of less strictly talented teams that came to be known for their ability to execute ideas.
The difference in those teams was the ability to draw a line connecting the ephemeral nature of customer insights to the hard and fast constraints of engineering and product partners.
I call that gap "the dark valley of design.". I specialize in helping the teams overcome that gap and deliver real value to customers on a regular basis. I use my engineering background to show my teams how to make engineering constraints work in their favor. I use my passion for product design to drive critical prioritization discussions with product partners.
I also like to make fun of Jeremy. If someone would pay me to do that, I’d abandon all this design mumbo jumbo in a heartbeat.
Jeremy Karney
Digital Design Leader & Impediment Slayer. I build Human Centered Teams that build Human Centered Things.
Design and technology are woven into the fabric of who I am. And chips*. And salsa. I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't drawing, designing, or playing with the latest and greatest gadget. It's who I am and I'm proud to say that it is also what I get paid to do. I haven’t figured out how to get paid to eat, but that’s probably for the best.
I have been designing digital experiences for a wide variety of industries for 20 years. I built my first website in 1998 and never looked back. I'll buy you a beer (or beverage of your choice) if you can find it (yes, it's still online). Since then I have worked in a variety of industries including banking, healthcare, education, not-for-profits, custom professional services and, last but definitely not least, craft beer.
In addition to production roles, I have over a decade of leadership experience leading teams of 2-40 located around the world.
*Tortilla chips. Not the kind of chips that Jared decided to randomly have in the background of his profile photo. To be fair I do ALSO love kettle chips.
Jacob Bernard
Producer, Warlock, Friend of Cattle. Not Dead.
Jacob is the long time producer of the show that Jared and Jeremy never mention. He has a long history of “working” with both of them. His hobbies include witchcraft, cow “tipping”, photoshopping himself into his friends family photos and feet. He would like to thank the academy, his friends and family but not Jared and Jeremy.
The lack of internet for 4 days has caused an existential crisis for Jared. Find out his thoughts on whether or not the digitally connected lives we lead are better or worse than the alternative.
